Tom stays at home to work on a history essay for school, while the rest of his family drives to the country to deliver some antique furniture. When Nobody pays a visit, Tom realises he can use the ghost’s knowledge of ‘Cornerstones’ as the basis for his report. Nobody shows Tom where he died from the plague: down in the cellar, which was originally used as the workhouse infirmary, marked by a sign he carved into the wall. After revealing that he was in a gang of thieves who stole to get food and money, Nobody summons up his late boss for Tom to meet. The ghost of self-proclaimed burglar extraordinary Jack Treadful soon materialises, and he agrees to help Tom with his history homework. But then the spectral thief sees all the valuable antiques lying around, and he promptly steals Mr Sinclair’s expensive antique snuff box…
